Solar Car Port at Archbishop Temple High School

Solar Car Port at Archbishop Temple High School

Solar Car Port at Archbishop Temple High School

This 23.36 kWp PV system is our first car port installation of the year. A solar car port provides cover for vehicles when parked, whilst generating solar energy from the sun. This clean electricity can then be used to power the site of installation or to charge up electric vehicles. They can cover many different designs of car parks which enable them to blend in with the surrounding environment. They can also be customised to have gutters to harvest rainfall. Solar car ports can increase land value and create revenue opportunities for site operators from EV charge-points, branding and advertising. They will be become more common in the near future due to the rise in the usage of electric vehicles and the new rules coming into play in a few years.

This system consists of 64 x Longi Solar, LR4-60HPH-365Ms solar panels as well as 32 x p801 optimizers meaning that for every two panels installed is connected to one optimizer. To finish off the system we installed 1 x solar edge 16k inverter which was installed in an outer power block next to the car port so that it would enable us to connect it to the PV system. The block will be closed off to the children of the school to keep them out of danger.

Archbishop Temple High School

Archbishop Temple Church of England High School is a high performing secondary school in Preston, Lancashire. We they 782 pupils, aged 11-16, and they aim to provide an outstanding education based firmly on their core values of faith, nurture and service.

Their pupils receive a first-class education and their exam results are consistently among the best in the country (in 2019 83% of our students achieved a good grade in five or more subjects, including English and Maths). They are one of only nine schools in England selected as a lead hub in Modern Foreign Languages.

However, they aim to achieve much more than that. The school is a vibrant and exciting place to be. There is never a dull moment and we are proud of the extra-curricular provision that is available in school, as well as the exemplary pastoral care they offer their pupils. As a school, they aim to be a caring place, and work hard to ensure that they show their care to those who are members of the school, but also to people in the wider community. Their staff and pupils raise many hundreds of pounds each year to support good causes both locally, nationally and internationally.

Being a Church of England School is a core part of their ethos. They express their faith in regular acts of worship, but also by providing an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where they make a commitment to each young person to try to support them to be the best they can be.

Ellesmere Port Sport Village 306.61 kWp Solar PV System

Ellesmere Port Sport Sport Village Solar PV System

This 306.61 kWp is our largest solar PV installation of the year so far and looking to top this as the year goes on. We have entered this installation into 250k+ project category at the Energy Effiicency Awards 2022 and hoping it can come out on top. The system consists of a huge 689 x Longi Solar, LR4-72HPH-445M solar panels, 345 x P950 optimizers and 6 x SolarEdge 33.3K inverters which is used to power the gym and swimming pool facilities.

No matter how big or small your business is there are benefits from solar energy for everyone!. If you have a good range of roof space on your commercial property installing a solar PV system can be an extremely good investment as you will make money back in the long run as well as save money on your current electricity bills. It’s not just beneficial financially, you can also help the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.

Another positive about solar energy is that you can store your energy and then use it when it is suitable for you. an example of when to use solar energy could be at a time of a power cut which has happened a lot in different parts of the country this week due to storm Eunice. So this can give bussinesses with a solar PV system on their site an advantage over other competitors without a solar PV system as they could be without power for a number of days depending on how bad the weather is.

Hoole Primary School Solar PV Installation

Last week we were close to home in the city of Chester installing 92.12 kWp solar PV system for Hoole Church of England Primary School which was split on to two different roofs. The smaller roof consists of 36 x Longi Solar, LR4-72HPH-445M solar panels and the other 171 were installed on larger building, bringing the total solar panels to 207. We installed 104 x P950 optimizers which was used to connect to two solar panels each. Inside the building of the school, we installed 2 x SolarEdge 30K inverters in a small room which is off limits to pupils of the school. The inverters are then wired up through the roof and connected to the PV system.

Why Should Other Schools Go Solar?

Save money on electricity bills – Schools can make huge savings on their electricity bills, allowing them to spend money on educational and recreational programmes.

Helps the environment – Solar PV system helps the environment by reducing the school’s Co2 emissions. Hoole primary school saves 16.98 tonnes every calendar year. Do you want to help with climate change?

Education to students – Being able to communicate to the pupils the benefits of sustainability through a working example of renewable technology in their own school will provide more direct engagement, particularly in the subjects of geography, science, design and technology and IT. This can also help to inspire the wider community to take action to address climate change.

Hoole Church of England Primary School

Hoole Church of England Primary School is a two form entry school with around 380 children aged 4-11, serving the community of Hoole on the outskirts of Chester. They work at the heart of our community and have a close working relationship with the parents and families of the children. Parents and Carers are regularly informed about their children’s progress and achievements and are encouraged to meet with staff to discuss their child’s progress, celebrate their achievements and liaise on any concerns.

They have fourteen classes at Hoole. Their school is well resourced with computers, interactive whiteboards, vibrant work areas and well-stocked libraries, offering a wide range of reading material and a quiet place for study and research. We have large practical workspaces outside the classrooms which are used for a range of lessons and activities including art, design and technology, ICT and group teaching. They have three playgrounds (including separate infant and junior adventure playgrounds), a woodland area, a vegetable patch and class-sized greenhouse, a Peace Garden, an all-weather sports surface and two grassed playing fields.

Northgate Arena – 153.00 kWp Solar PV System

Northgate Arena Solar PV Installation

Towards the end of last year, we made our second visit to Northgate Arena to complete the 153 kWp solar PV system. The system took around a week to install as it consisted of 340 x Longi Solar, LR4-72HPH-450M solar panels connected to half the amount of optimizers as they connect to two solar panels each. The strings were then connected to the 2 x Solar Edge 50K Manager inverters which were installed undercover inside the building.

The 153 kWp solar PV system is estimated to produce around 124.61 MWh of energy and save 29 tonnes of carbon emissions every year which is the equivalent of over 1,300 trees being planted. Brio Leisure is helping the environment massively by going solar at most of their leisure centre’s in Cheshire.

Norbar Torque Tools 531 kWp Solar PV Installation

In early May 2022, We installed a huge 530 kWp solar PV system at Norbar Torque Services based in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The system consisted of a massive 1180 Longi solar panels as well as half the amount of P950 optimizers. We also installed two different types of inverters in this project as the system was so large, these inverters are the Solaredge 66.6k Manager and three  Solaredge 100k Managers.

The system is estimated to produce 464.78 MWh of energy every year, which will provide clean, green electricity for Norbar and support local community energy projects. The system is also helping the environment massively by reducing its carbon footprint by 108.29 tonnes, which is equivalent to 4,974 trees being planted.

The health & safety and environmental manager (Ian Broome) at Norbar Torque Services had this to say about our installation team.

“I would like to make you aware of the excellent way in which Dave Cowley and his team have worked whilst at Norbar. From the moment we were introduced Dave has always considered health and safety as the priority, understanding and welcoming our role and ensuring at all times we were briefed. This was also reflected in the way his team worked as well.

Dave always had the time to talk through any issues and finding solutions, managing sub-contractors and ensuring they kept high standards of health and safety.”

Low Carbon Hub

Low Carbon Hub helped massively in this project by raising the funds for the installation. They are a social enterprise that’s out to prove they can meet the energy needs in a way that’s good for people and good for the planet.

They develop community-owned renewable energy installations across Oxfordshire that not only produce clean energy but accelerates the transition to the zero carbon energy system we need for the future, providing electricity, heat and a clean transport system, all powered by renewables.

The installations also produce an ongoing income, which is reinvested in further carbon cutting projects. They help local organisations become more energy efficient, fund green innovation, and back further community energy projects. They make every pound of investment work hard to bring our vision of a smart and fair energy system to life.

They are at the heart of a growing partnership of people and organisations across Oxfordshire, working together, for a low carbon future.
